Compromise December 17, 2009
Last week Sky was the fussiest she’s been in a long time. She seemed to be teething and even had a fever one night, so I tried to be as patient as possible, but she was definitely pushing me past my limits. None of the things she usually loves – her lamb, her blanket, books, yogurt, necklaces, or even daddy – calmed her down. She just alternated between mild whining and full-on crying all day long, for several days in a row. If I wasn’t holding her, she was hanging onto my legs, whimpering.
Then one afternoon while I unloaded groceries into the fridge, Sky discovered the Hershey’s chocolate syrup in the refrigerator, immediately popped off the cap, and began sucking on the bottle. And I let her, even when chocolate drool started to drip down the front of her jacket.
Then over the weekend we noticed Sky had cut four new teeth. By Saturday she was back to her usual happy, hyper self. I’m glad I let her have a little chocolate syrup last week.
“That’s awesome! If I were Skylar I would eat the chocolate syrup too!! She is lucky!”- Hannah
P.S. “I really like Sylar’s coat she’s wearing in the picture.”
Great picture Linni! Chocolate always helps me feel better when I am crabby too!

I love this pic! What a nice mommy to let her have the syrup in her time of pain. Probably eased yours for a minute too! :).
ohh, i hope elly’s problem is teeth right now too! she’s acting exactly the same way!
i miss Sky.
Poor little dove! Oh I miss her so much!
You are a great Mom!
Chocolate always makes life all better!
Poor baby girl! I’m glad those teeth are through and that she’s feeling better. What a trying week it must have been for all of you! But it is so cool to see how you and Ad both keep on letting God grace you with humor and a willingness to compromise in those crazy moments. You two are awesome parents!
Love,
Aron
Poor precious…I’m happy for all of you those theeth are through…..those and the wisdom teeth which come along later. It’s so difficult with the first one, especially, because they can’t tell you..what’s wrong….they’re just miserable and want your comforting. Like Aron said…”you two are awesome parents”;…and this GG is especially proud of you to see how you let God direct your actions.
Parenthood, as you are finding out, is an emotional rollercoaster of ‘hurts’ and ‘happy’s’….blessings rule!!
Love ya, GG
See? I always said sugar should have an elevated place in life.
I remember your mom telling me about how she used to rub your gums with a razor blade to help the teeth come through! This is one piece of advice I was not brave enough to try. I wouldn’t mind trying the Hersheys straight from the bottle, though I also remember my son, Andrew, cut his first four teeth at 10 weeks. Made for interesting nursing! Hang in there!
